Great today tips too like plant a garden in tiers away from the sun or use corn for bean sprout supports. Plus building planting cooking canning & on & on

I just downloaded this book for free and skimmed through it and it looks like one of the best, most comprehensive prepper books I've ever seen. I'll be reading this over the next week or two.

The Mormons have been known as great preppers for many years. I suppose because of all the persecution they suffered in the 19th century. I wonder if the Jews have a prepping manual?

 

I am collecting the entire Foxfire series, as well as many of the military survival manuals. Reading how people made do in Appalachia without modern technology will help me do many of the necessary tasks to survive,

But I am most interested in folk medicine, as I used to be a midwife assistant and student. Been using herbal tinctures, supplements, natural clays etc for healing my friends and family for years.
So I am looking for great herbal and folk healing books. Please share info on any great natural medicine books!

Books I am not sure of?...eBooks for a device....good way to review to see if I want to spend the money for a hard copy.


Books I use often, like paper copies....Does not need batteries, can book mark it with post-its, make notes and store additional material.

Besides just reading ...try and gather gear and supplies for as many of the recipes, techniques, methods as you can....

Wow Jerry that's impressive. I thought I was doing good with a 14' bookshelf of knowledge. I add several 3-5 page how to articles a week and 1 book a month. Thanks for a great place to look for my next book(s).

Jerry, I see you have a lot of radiation related books. So logically that's a major concern or your very thorough. Probably both. Is that your no. 1 concern or what is? Being very well read, I'm curious.

My major concern is no electricity by an EMP, hackers, transformer sabotage, etc. It would be a mammoth culling event. Most everything else is livable. China, Russia & other bigs will not Nuke us and i wouldn't want to survive a large event. Radical M. Dirty bombs or 1 offs will be local and will fade in time as it did in Nega. & Hiroshima Japan.

History is a great teacher and she repeats herself. In time, there will be another great culling. Plan for the worst rainy day to live to see the sunshine tomorrow.

Nuclear protection is one of my primary interests for several reasons. One, it was one of my first, with the Cuban Missile Crisis when I was 9 and growing up during the cold war.

Another, primary one, is that protection from blast, radiation, EMP, and the other effects require some very specific and specialized information and preparation.

Plus, the preps for nukes often directly apply to other types of disasters that may/will have to be dealt with. And sometimes with minor modifications or additions nuke preps apply to even more disasters.

One of my greatest concerns is a partial infrastructure failure that becomes a total infrastructure failure, caused by whatever event. This includes EMP, HEMP, hacking, sabotage, miss management, or nature disaster, including various levels or degrees of nuclear attack.

Since nuclear attack preps have always included preps for total grid down, anyway, they have always been a primary part of my preps.

As to surviving in a post major nuclear exchange, unless I am at ground zero of a device, or close enough to be seriously injured, I believe that there will be able to survive quite well, and if not for the limitations of my medications, would be able to not just survive long term, but do it well, and productively, helping civilization recover in an even better form than it is now.

Even in a widespread, global nuclear event, large areas, even huge ones in places, will be only mildly affected directly. Those areas with food production capability will do well.

Just my opinion.

 

Between Back to Basics and A Failure of Civility, The Gardeners Bible and The Bell Blue Book, I'm four square. I have several books a combat engineer buddy of mine suggested. I have the country wisdom book and my smarter and prettier better half has a library of herb craft and apothecary books from many times and places, including the Foxfire series. I have several smithing books suggested by Anno Lynke, an excellent smith.

Kindles pretty much allow you to carry an entire library with minimal power requirements. The medium is as important as the media.

 

For sure. My Kindle Fire, Solar Charger and a few 64GB MicroSD cards and I have a nice portable library. Though I do battle with the issue that I love the feel of a good book in my hands, so Have a mix, typically buy the keeps and download the more article or manual types.

Anther type of book that I don't actually think of as Prepper but in an re-evaluating, are How To books, like Blacksmithing, Bladesmithing, Gardening, Beekeeping, Chicken and Goat husbandry, Herbs, etc. That adds another 30 or so to my library. I will pull the titles later and post.

 

I am getting into how to use Essential Oils as Medicine.

When Modern Medicine Fails. Using Essential Oils to Save Your Life. is an awesome book to have in your kit. I carry a dram kit of the most important oils in my bob!

Usually, Work occupies most of time , I download a PPT reading software(including travel guide ,globle times .....)in mobil phone,It's very convenient for me to make use of leisure time reading, Reading can enriched your life and boarded you insight.

I appreciate this list. I'm wondering which Fire tablet you happen to have? I have an older Kindle Fire, second generation and have been thinking of updating to a newer one. Mine does not have any portable storage ability or solar charger. I'd appreciate the pros and cons of what you are using, which solar charger/bank you are using for it and if you have tried others that you would recommend? Thanks!

 

I am using a new Amazon Fire 8" HD (https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Amaz...GB/dp/B018SZT3BK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1494884377&sr=1-1&keywords=fire+hd) with a BigBlue 5V 28W Solar Panel (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EXWCPLC?psc=1).

I travel for work and i can get a 4 days of reading out of the Fire. with 2 64Gb cards I can store the proverbial sh!t load of books. Great display and easy to use. The bad? Settings suck, trying to get on a guest WiFi at a hotel sucks, Android in general sucks (I am an apple guy). For $89.95? I will take the bad because the good out weighs it.

I love my iPad, the kindle reader works great but battery life sucks and it is too large to comfortable hold in the reading position for hours. NO external storage though with news do seem to work with a lightning to USB adapter and a thumb drive. No personal experience in that though.

 

There is a newer version coming out June 7th that is ten dollars cheaper.

Probably average 3 hours a day.

 

I do not yet own it but I am eager to acquire 'Stalking the Wild Asparagus' by Euell Gibbons, which is a wild edibles book.
